Melbourne FL car shipping tips
Over the years we've been listening to our customers. We also believe that an informed customer is the best customer. Below you'll find answers to the most common questions customers ask about car shipping. If you want a successful auto transport service, investing a few minutes into learning the details of the industry will do you great help. Although this list is not the all-in-all of everything you should know, it's a great start. Furthermore, you can visit our "how it works" page for more information. Remember, the goal is to make you an informed customer!
Planning ahead for your car transport
Booking your vehicle at least a week in advance means you won't be paying any premium for a last-minute booking. Truck spaces fill up fast, and due to the general rules of supply and demand, your last-minute booking can increase your overall shipping price by at least $100-150. We generally ask our customers for a 1-5 business day window wherein we can send a truck to their location. If this window of pickup is narrower, you're likely looking at a premium cost because we'll have to offer our trucker more money to forgo all the other cars on their route to drive directly to you. But it's not all doom and gloom, we don't add a premium for no reason. At least at Competition Auto Transport, if we don't face an additional charge from our drivers means you won't either. Regardless, it's good to plan ahead!
Be flexible with your schedule when shipping your car
Though we try our best to meet your every demand, we still have to be realistic concerning pickup hours. If you have regular work hours please have a friend or family on standby to release or accept your vehicle for you. We generally give our customers a 24-hour notice to arrival, then again an hour or two before our truck driver arrives. Knowing to be flexible concerning the truckers' arrival is very important. Based on weather and traffic pickup times may fluctuate slightly, therefore knowing ahead of time to be flexible for these reasons will greatly ease any tension you may have concerning your move.
Auto transport transit times
It is never in a trucker's interest to delay your transport. Since drivers generally get paid on delivery, their goal is to free up that space for another vehicle as quickly as possible. But we never sacrifice speed for security. The department of transportation has strict rules for operating hours for truck drivers, we do have to ensure that our drivers are well rested for the long roads ahead. Below is a guideline for transit times based on distance:
- 1-1000 miles(1-5 days)
- 1000-2000 miles (3-7 days)
- 2000-3000 miles (5-12 days)
Expedited car shipping
If you need service as soon as possible there are a couple of options we can offer. Although we can try to send you a truck the same day at no additional cost, we never promise you the "best-case scenario" option. Therefore, your first and most cost-effective option is to leave your vehicle with a friend or family member to release to the truck driver. This way you're not paying a premium of rushing a truck driver to your house (since this would cause them to for-go all the other vehicles on his or her route to head straight to yours.) If you have nobody available to release your vehicle for you then we'll provide you contact information to a storage facility closest to you where you can drop off your vehicle for our driver to later retrieve. Always consider your storage fees before taking your option because this service is not free.
Your options for expedited services are:
-
- Leave your car with a friend or family member
- Pay a premium for expedited services
- Drop your car at a vehicle storage location near you
Car transport bill of lading
A bill of lading will be issued by our carrier when he arrived to pick up your vehicle. This document will specify the origin and destination of your route, information on your vehicle, and details concerning the condition of your vehicle.
