Getting the lowest possible price car transport rates
Distance traveled, vehicle size, and the urgency of your schedule will affect your overall price. One variable that cannot change is the vehicle size. However, distance and urgency can be adjusted. First, if you're shipping a car that is not being picked up and delivered from a metropolitan city, consider releasing and accepting the car from a major city - this will lower your transport cost. Second, if you have a tight schedule, work hours, or travel plans, consider having a friend or family member release or accept the vehicle for you. Giving yourself a 1-5 business day window for a trucker to retrieve your vehicle will also cost you less than giving your transporter anything less than a 5 business day window for pickup.
Items inside the vehicle during transport
If you're planning on moving some household items inside your vehicle we advise you to notify us immediately. When drivers arrive to pick up a customer's vehicle they assume the car is empty. However, if the vehicle is not empty, the driver may decide to charge extra for the additional items. If the vehicle is packed to the brim, the driver may reject the vehicle outright.
Items inside the trunk of the car and less than 100lbs are acceptable. But when household items overflow into the back seat and are visible from the outside, it makes drivers uncomfortable. Keep in mind that carriers may drive upwards of a few thousand miles to deliver customers' vehicles. Because they drive such long distances they must park and rest and truck stops. The last thing both the customer and driver want is for lookie-looks to notice items inside a vehicle and attempt to break in to steal.
What is door-to-door auto transport?
Generally speaking, an auto transport service is a door-to-door service. This means the driver will get as physically close to the pickup and delivery address as possible. If you live on a street that is accessible by a truck and the driver can safely park, they'll pick up and deliver at the specified address. If you live on a narrow street, one with low-hanging trees, or a street on which the driver cannot safely park, they'll meet you at the nearest convenient location to you. Options available when meeting the driver (should your address be restricted) are meeting him a couple of streets away or even a local Target, Walmart, or Home Depot parking lot.
The difference between an auto transport carrier and an auto transport broker
It's important that a customer understands the difference between a broker and a carrier. A carrier is a company that will physically haul your vehicle from point A to B. The broker, on the other hand, is the middleman between the customer and the carrier. Is a broker necessary? Not necessarily, especially if a customer has direct contact with a carrier, to begin with. For example, say you have a relative who had their vehicle transported on the same route your transport is, then we recommend contacting that carrier and requesting a quote from them directly. The only time a broker is necessary is if you cannot find a carrier yourself for the route in question. With this said, however, note that very few carriers market for the industry. Since their full-time job is to drive their truck, your online search results for auto transport are almost always brokers.
Meeting the car transport driver
Generally speaking, our drivers call a day before arrival, then once again an hour or two before reaching you to pickup or deliver your vehicle. It is important that your vehicle is in the correct condition for transport, meaning it's relatively clean for the inspection and has no more than a quarter tank of gas for transport. Be prepared to accompany the driver as they take a detailed inventory of any existing damage on your vehicle, taking photographs is always recommended. Should you live on a narrow street, culdesac, or anywhere that restricts access to a semi-truck, we can always arrange the meeting a few streets down where the driver can safely park to load or unload your vehicle. If it's impossible to deliver or load your vehicle in your residential neighborhood, we can always arrange delivery at your local Target, Home Depot, or Walmart parking lot.
Car shipping for people with tight schedules
Sometimes customers ask whether a friend or family member can accept or release a vehicle for them, and the answer is yes! Because of busy schedules and work hours, not everyone will be available to meet the driver, therefore it is always recommended that you have a friend or family member on standby to help with a conflicting schedule. There is no additional paperwork involved, we just need a heads up that you, yourself, will be absent, and someone will take your stead. We do, however, ask that you inform the individual caring for your car that the driver will take a detailed inventory of any existing damage on your vehicle, and the person caring for your vehicle should follow closely to also inspect the vehicle upon release and acceptance.
