Hayk did a wonderful job for us -- he quickly found a truck that was available to pick up our car in New Hampshire and drop it off in San Diego. The trip was expected to take 7-8 days, but we received a phone call after just 4 days, saying our car was ready to be delivered! Preparing your vehicle for car shipping
It is in your best interest to have the vehicle relatively clean for the driver's inspection. Moreover, no more than a 1/4 tank of fuel will ensure the weight of the trailer remains as low as possible. The heavier the trailer the more drivers spend on fuel, the more they spend on fuel the higher the transport prices. Remove any antennas from the vehicle as during transport they may bend and bow and scratch your vehicle. Also, make sure your tires are fully inflated so the tire straps safely grip and secure your car to the trailer.
The auto transport carrier will contact you
The day before your driver arrives they'll call with an approximate ETA. Their 24 hours heads up will give a general time of arrival such as morning, afternoon, or evening. These hours may fluctuate based on traffic and weather, but generally speaking, they're rather accurate. Once again, when the driver is 1-2 hours away from your location, you'll get another phone call with a precise time of arrival. Note: If you have a hectic schedule or may be unavailable to release or accept your vehicle, consider designating a friend or family member to release/accept your car in your stead.
When the auto transporter arrives
Once the driver safely parks the first order of business is the "Bill of lading". The bill of lading is the official contract with the carrier and yourself. Not only does it act as a contract, but it is also used to mark the condition of your vehicle prior to loading. Moreover, it will have the pickup and delivery addresses noted, so best to double-check those are correct. While the driver marks the condition of the vehicle on the form, it's best if you walk along and do the same. Taking photographs of the car is always the best practice. Once you sign the bill of lading you've officially released your vehicle into the care of the carrier. They will then drive the vehicle to the trailer and leave. This whole process can take anywhere from 15-30 minutes.
When your vehicle is delivered
The delivery process is roughly the same as the pickup. The driver calls ahead 24 hours prior to delivery, then once again 1-2 hours before arriving. Again you'll be presented with the bill of lading and the inspection is to ensure your vehicle is delivered in the same condition it was retrieved. The delivery process takes about 15-20 minutes. Remember, if your schedule is out of sync with the carrier, you can always designate a friend or family member to accept your vehicle for you.
